Meet Your City Leaders:

Ashley-Marie & Eva Easton

Ashley and I both live in Zanzibar and just as the Gals That Brunch chapter started, we were also keen to explore the island and meet new people being ex-pats on the archipelago. Ashley has been in Zanzibar for about one and a half years, and I have been on the island for about four years. Still looking for connections and like minds, we met through a mutual friend in Zanzibar. It really felt like meeting someone who you have known forever. We just click and align. We believe that had we met a second sooner or a second later, the bond would be different. We really met at the right time.

Our chats were mainly encompassed of really good food and music, then one day, we dove into conversation about what we do.

Ashley is one of the most amazing chefs I (Eva) know. Her food... Woo fire; hence she started her business here called “The Ashley Maybe Experience.”

The Ashley Maybe Experience is a live introduction to vibrational and intuitive cooking and touring each new country through food. Our first destination for this underpinning is Zanzibar, Tanzania. Since her introduction to the international culinary world, Ashley has been inspired by so many styles, people, and spices. The foundation of her skill set is rooted in African-American tradition and everything she learned from her family. How to listen to your food to know when it’s finished or calling “season to taste” what it truly means. When that all-knowledgeable voice tells you to stop. Each meal is prepared vibrationally and intentionally with added nutrients to elevate average comfort food.

I (Eva) am a community-driven person. Always wanting to help and bridge the gap between different cultures, ethnicities, and backgrounds hence forming my company Stawi a Swahili word meaning to thrive, to succeed, to develop, to prosper.

At Stawi, we create culturally enriched lifestyles programs to provide connection, community identity, spiritual fulfillment, creative self-expression, and joy in learning. We advocate for a healthy natural environment. We have two attached accommodations which are the Tarawanda House and Lagomstudios where anyone coming to visit Zanzibar can relax and have the opportunity to go into their mind, body, and spirit. We are curating space for culture to flourish, nurturing space for nature to regenerate, and investing in space for livelihoods to prosper.

With the bond and friendship we have, we decided to open a business located in the heart of Stonetown called “theBox by Ashley Maybe.” This is a Maybe place where you never know what the theme of the day will be or what will happen and is a place where anyone and everyone is welcome to come and be their most authentic self. TheBox is an events space where Ashley shows a culinary journey pairing both African and Western cuisine. TheBox offers a place a chance to be engulfed into the natural beauty, food, and culture of East Africa.

We can not wait to host the Gals That Brunch chapter here in Zanzibar. Ashley Maybe Experience at theBox and any venue we choose for the brunches will begin with a boozy brunch and let the rest of the day take us away. We will have vibrationally prepared meals with you in mind each and every time we have a brunch. We will make sure to curate excursions, venues, groups, networking events, and meals that will take you on a real archipelago journey exchanging knowledge, making friends, and transferring professional development skills to people with wanting to just “maybe” or “be.”
