August Book Club Pick is here!
At July’s South County Book Club, our theme was banned books, stories that have been pulled from shelves, challenged in classrooms, or deemed “too much” by someone, somewhere. Each month, our book club switches topics, and we all toss book recs into a hat… and the winner was:
The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison.
The Bluest Eye is a lyrical, unflinching exploration of beauty, belonging, and the devastating impact of racism on a young Black girl’s sense of self. Banned in many schools and libraries, Toni Morrison’s debut novel continues to challenge, awaken, and expand hearts with its poetic force and emotional truth.
Whether you’ve finished it, just started it, or simply showed up for the vibes and seltzers, you are always so welcome here.
💫 No pressure to finish the book.
💫 No pressure to have deep thoughts.
💫 Just bring your heart (and a snack if you're feeling fancy).
📖 For September: bring a Historical Fiction title to throw in for our next vote! Think powerful women, sweeping love stories, or anything that pairs well with wine and tears.
We’ll be back at Groundswell Brewery (on the patio in the back), good drinks, great convos, and all the warm summer night magic. ✨
Come for the convo, stay for the community. 💕
