At July’s South County Book Club, our theme was banned books, stories that have been pulled from shelves, challenged in classrooms, or deemed “too much” by someone, somewhere. Each month, our book club switches topics, and we all toss book recs into a hat… and the winner was:
The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison.

The Bluest Eye is a lyrical, unflinching exploration of beauty, belonging, and the devastating impact of racism on a young Black girl’s sense of self. Banned in many schools and libraries, Toni Morrison’s debut novel continues to challenge, awaken, and expand hearts with its poetic force and emotional truth.
